Abstract

The development of the textile industry results in several environmental impacts, since the processes of the production chain generate waste and effluents that contain toxic substances and with high degradation power. An option to treat these generated effluents is the adsorption process, which consists of the migration of molecules from a fluid phase to the surface of a solid. This article aimed to study the potential of the application of adsorbents from the solid agricultural residue, banana peel silver, for the removal of textile dyes, more specifically the direct dye. Thus, in addition to providing better quality results in treated effluents, the project proposes to reduce the disposal of waste in industrial landfills, or in some cases, in inappropriate locations. Through analyzes already carried out, it can be stated that the results for the studied residue are somewhat promising. The best result obtained for the adsorption of the direct dye was with the adsorbent activated dried at 100 °C. This result indicates the potential for use and future studies of the residue for dye removal processes from textile effluents.
