Abstract

In Brazil, the textile industry is on the rise as it provides 1.6 million direct jobs and drives the economy. However, these companies generate a large amount of waste and effluents with potential for environmental pollution, capable of causing degradation to aquatic ecosystems when released to the water body. The objective of this work is to evaluate the use of inorganic and organic coagulants in the treatment of textile effluent by investigating the use of the best coagulant through the jar test, as well as the determination of the optimal concentration and the choice of filter media such as polyester and polypropylene through filtration tests vacuum. Concluded, there was a significant removal percentage of BOD5, COD, SST and turbidity. It is known that the optimal concentration of aluminum sulfate is 150 g/L and PE filter 280 for Tanfloc SG the optimum concentration corresponds to 4 g/L and PP 220 filter.
