Abstract

Lithium ion batteries (LIBs), in nowadays, are the most used in portable electronics due to their high energy density and have a very low weight when compared to other types of material. The technology, as a whole, is planned with programmed obsolescence and it is not different in the case of batteries, therefore, it is necessary to act in the development of recycling routes to avoid the environmental impact caused by the waste of electronic equipment (WEEE), as well as burdening the final product due to the extraction of less and less abundant ores. This work aims to characterize the elementary contents of different fractions of comminuted LIBs for further study of an economically and environmentally viable rout.
