  Promoting the publication of scientific works, essential for innovation in the search for solutions to socio-environmental issues, is essential to disseminate and deepen knowledge about solid waste management and to meet a demand from public policies, waste generators, industry, the waste management chain and research and development centers for environmental technologies.

  
  The scientific articles submitted to the 14th International Forum on Solid Waste and recommended for publication in this Journal, make a significant contribution not only to the academic area, but to society as a whole.

  The 13th edition of the International Forum on Solid Waste (FIRS) took place on June 1, 2 and 3, 2022, next to the Bienal do Lixo, at Parque Villa-Lobos - in São Paulo Capital, with the main purpose of disseminating and deepen knowledge that addresses the causes of the existence of solid waste. And, in this way, provoke reflection and awareness regarding the consequences for the society-nature relationship, historically and socially constructed within what the National Solid Waste Policy defends.

  The International Forum on Solid Waste - FIRS consolidates itself as the most important technical and scientific event in Brazil on solid waste, presenting a broad view of the subject that ranges from academic studies to governmental and business views, with the purpose of disseminating and deepen knowledge that addresses the causes of the existence of solid waste, provoking a reflection that leads to an awareness of its consequences for the society-nature relationship, historically and socially constructed.

  The twelfth edition of FIRS was essential to continue the discussions on the topic initiated in previous editions and stimulate the publication of articles, promoting the exchange between scientific production and public and private investors to motivate the emergence of new technological base companies.

  O Forum Internacional de Resíduos Sólidos - FIRS consolida-se como o evento técnico e científico mais importante do Brasil no tema resíduos sólidos, apresentando uma visão ampla do assunto que abrange desde estudos acadêmicos até a visão governamental e empresarial, com o propósito de difundir e aprofundar conhecimentos que abordem as causas da existência dos resíduos sólidos, provocando uma reflexão, que leve a uma consciência das suas consequências para a relação sociedade-natureza, histórica e socialmente construída.
