Several industrial and service provision establishments have emerged over time in order to meet the population's demand for products and services, but when unplanned, they pose risks of contamination to the environment. Companies that adhere to environmental audits and new positions regarding environmentally responsible ways stand out in the current market. Thus, the main objective of this work was to develop and test a check-list spreadsheet, prepared based on the conditions of the Single Environmental License (LAU) of a mechanical workshop located in the municipality of São Lourenço do Sul-RS, on the 28th of October 2019. The checklist spreadsheet allowed the audit of legal compliance to be carried out where all the requirements required by the environmental license were assessed, and it can be concluded that the project is partially in compliance. Among the items that deserve special and urgent attention are the lack of waterproof flooring throughout the machine shop area and the correct conditioning and storage of hazardous and non-hazardous waste. Adequate solid waste management requires little financial investment and an easy solution, which would result in better control and proper disposal of the same, in addition to providing economic development combined with preserving the environment. Another point observed was the lack of knowledge of the owner and his collaborators regarding the importance of an adequate waste management, which allows us to suggest the realization of a training and capacity building program for everyone's environmental awareness.
