Abstract

The increase in the production and consumption of nanomaterials (NMs), with different types of nanoparticle compounds (NPs), also raises concerns about the impacts of these materials on the environment at the end of their useful lives. Since little is known about the impacts of these nanoparticles, especially the silver nanoparticles (AgNP), this study evaluated the possible effects of this type of nanoparticle on the anaerobic degradation of the Organic Fraction of Domestic Municipal Solid Waste standardized (OFDMSWs), through Biochemical Methane Potential (BMP) tests. Therefore, three kinetic models were applied to the results (first-order model, transference function and logistic function), assessing their suitability in terms of the parameters and associated errors of their estimates. Using the least squares method, the three kinetics models were adjusted to the data and their fit qualities were assessed using the adjusted determination coefficient (R2a). By linear regression of the potential methane production parameter (S) by the concentration of AgNP, it was possible to observe that there is a linear relationship between the S and the logarithm of the AgNP concentration. Of the three models applied, the only one that satisfactorily describes the data is the logistic model. Through the analysis of its parameters, a decreasing trend of its parameters Rmax and λ was observed, with the increase in AgNP concentrations.
